What We Belive
Scripture
We at Pastor Vox believe the Bible is the infallible Word of God. The Bible being the infallible word of God means the Bible is the greatest source of truth. The Bible is God’s revelation to man making it the only infallible source on how we should live our lives. In the Bible, God has given us everything we need to live our lives to glorify God.
While the Bible was written by human authors, we believe that it is the Word of God. The Bible has divine inspiration by the Holy Spirit guiding the author's words. This makes the Bible the Word of God written by human authors. 2 Timothy 3:16 describes the Bible as being “God-breathed”.
The Bible must be interpreted literally. The meaning of the author’s original text must be taken literally. Understanding that a non-literal figure of speech’s meaning must be gathered from it’s context to make a correct interpretation is crucial to understanding the Bible. There is only one meaning to every passage and not a deeper hidden meaning, only what was intended by the author. We believe now that we have the complete revelation of God’s Word special revelation from God, such as prophecy, are incredibly rare and not a part of regular life. Any special revelation must be tested against scripture to determine if it is true and any prophecy that contradicts or finds a new “deeper” meaning of scripture is not of God. (Deut. 18:22, 1 Cor. 12:1-4).
God’s Authority
God is the ultimate authority and ruler of the world. He exists as a triune God made up of one being, but three persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Mt. 28:19). There are no other Gods besides him. Only God is eternal, omniscience, omnipresent, and omnipotent.
We believe that Jesus Christ is God (God the Son) and is equal to the Father and like the Father has always existed. All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus (Jn. 8:58, 10:30 Col. 1:15-17). Jesus while fully God is also fully man through the incarnation. (Jn. 1:14 Rn. 8:3). Though Jesus came to earth as a man he was able to live a sinless perfect life die on the cross and rise again three days later. Through his death on the cross as the perfect sacrifice Jesus was able to defeat death and grant the gift of salvation to those who believe and have faith in him. After his resurrection, Jesus ascended to heaven to prepare a place for believers. Jesus will one day return to take his church with him to forever reside with him in heaven.
Man and Sin
Man (humanity) was created in the image of God as a perfect being. Through the disobedience in Eden by eating the fruit of the Tree of Life, sin was brought into the world and has caused us to be fallen and sinful creatures separated from God. Since the fall every man has been born with a sinful nature. Sin is the breaking of God’s Moral Law which separates us from God. We are incapable of cleansing ourselves of sin and need a savior (Rn. 3:10-12). Every man, except Jesus, is bound by sin and doomed to separation from God and sentenced to hell unless they place their faith in Jesus Christ and are born again. Man can only achieve salvation through the free gift offered by God through his grace.
Salvation
Salvation can only come from God through the blood of Jesus Christ. It is by the will of the Father, cleansing of sin through Jesus’s blood, and sanctification through the Holy Spirit that we are saved. Salvation is a free gift offered by God through his great love for us. Salvation can not be earned through works, given by man, or through baptism, it is only through faith in Jesus Christ and what he did on the cross that we are saved. (1 Pt. 2-3, Ep. 4-10, Jn. 14:6)). There is nothing that can grant salvation other than the faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism, while important to demonstrate one’s faith before their fellow believers, is not a component of salvation.
